The heartbeat of football isn’t only in the goals scored, but in the rhythm of the stands. For Gor Mahia, a new generation has risen — the Green Ultras — reshaping what it means to be a fan and painting a fresh, fearless identity on the terraces of Kenyan football
Once upon a time, Gor Mahia’s fan culture was defined by sacred chants, the choir, the white and green faithful, and unforgettable figures like “The Bishop.” Back then, the stands carried more restraint — soulful songs, drums, and carefully crafted call-and-response.
But the game has changed. In has come a new generation — the Gen Z Green Ultras. They have traded subtlety for spectacle, giving birth to a football theatre of color, smoke, and unrelenting noise.

At the Moi International Sports Centre (MISK), the famous Stand 14 has become their pulpit. Here, smoke bombs cloud the air in shades of green, tifos unfurl with bold messages, and fans organize synchronized chants that ripple across the stadium like waves.
Their passion reached its peak during last season’s MozzartBet Cup final at Ulinzi Complex, where, despite Gor Mahia’s loss to Nairobi United, the Green Ultras lit up the stands with smoke bombs and defiant energy. It was more than a show — it was a statement.
This fire has not gone unnoticed. Rivals AFC Leopards and Shabana have begun nurturing their own versions of ultras, inspired by the sheer force of K’Ogalo’s new wave. What was once a reserved, sometimes fearful experience for fans — marred by hooliganism and unsafe spaces — is slowly being reclaimed as a festival of football.
The Green Ultras are not just entertainers. They call for accountability from players and management, and they champion safer, more inclusive spaces for supporters. They are reimagining the terrace as both a stage and a voice of conscience.
This rebirth of Gor Mahia fandom is drawing comparisons to some of the most renowned ultras in football. From Atletico Madrid’s Frente Atlético to Galatasaray’s fiery support, and in Africa, the famous curves of Al Ahly, Raja Casablanca, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Orlando Pirates, K’Ogalo’s Green Ultras are announcing themselves as part of that global tradition.
The question is no longer whether the fans can create an atmosphere, but how far this energy can carry the team. As Gor Mahia navigates the new season, their young ultras will remain both the pulse and the mirror of the club.
In the end, football isn’t just about the players on the pitch. It’s about the faithful who turn 90 minutes into eternity. And right now, eternity in green smoke feels very much alive.

Sometimes the goals miss, sometimes the titles slip, but with the Green Ultras, Gor Mahia have found a victory that no referee can whistle away. See you next week.
