The Booking Mix-Up

Friday’s match between CB FC and Tusker FC produced one of the most unusual moments of the new season. Nashon Wekesa picked up a yellow card in the first half and was booked again after conceding a penalty. But instead of being sent off, the referee allowed play to continue with Wekesa still on the pitch.

“I only realized after Maruti came and told me that I should have left the pitch,” Wekesa told Mozzart Sport. “That’s when it hit me that I had already been cautioned in the first half.”

Confusion and Refocus

The defender admitted the realization left him shaken.
“I got confused and even lost concentration for a moment as I tried to process it,” he said. “But with our determination to start the season strongly, I refocused and managed to play until the end.”

His teammate Dennis Maruti even tried to shield him by claiming responsibility for the foul that led to the penalty. “He didn’t succeed because I still got the yellow card,” Wekesa explained. “But maybe his actions distracted the referee enough not to show me a red.”

Dressing Room Banter

The incident has since sparked plenty of laughs in the CB FC camp.
“Everyone has been calling me ‘lucky boy,’” Wekesa said with a smile. “Honestly, I really do consider myself very lucky.”

While the error went unnoticed by the officials, it has raised fresh questions about refereeing standards early in the season. For Wekesa and CB FC though, it remains a bizarre but memorable escape.
