Key Highlights
Ugandan forward Mohamed Shaban Jagason is yet to play for Gor Mahia after a bitter fallout over his signing fee. Reports indicate he was promised $30,000 (approx Ksh4m) upon signing, but only received $10,000 (Ksh1.3m), with assurances the balance would come later.
Feeling shortchanged, Shaban returned to Uganda and insists he won’t feature until the full amount is settled. His absence leaves coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor short of attacking options as he rebuilds after last season’s disappointments.
On the pitch, Gor’s woes deepened on Sunday as they lost their league opener 0–1 to Bidco United at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani (MISK). Newton Ochieng struck the only goal, giving the Oilers three points and continuing their good run against K’Ogalo — they also took four points from the champions last season.
The defeat highlights just how fragile Gor’s rebuild looks, especially with new signings yet to fully settle and key internationals only recently rejoining the squad.
Fans Clash with VC Sally Bolo
Away from the pitch, Gor Mahia supporters have trained their anger on Vice Chair Sally Bolo, accusing her of a conflict of interest through her agency Salient Sports. Sections of fans claim she was behind the transfer of defender Alphonce Omija to Tunisia’s Etoile du Sahel, a move that has caused uproar among supporters.
Sally Bolo, however, publicly distanced herself from the deal, saying she did not influence Omija’s sale and urged fans not to politicize transfers. Despite her denial, criticism continues to mount online.
Amid the chaos, Gor announced positive news off the field. Following a meeting with SportPesa at Serena Hotel, the club finalized a deal on replica jersey pricing and distribution.
The agreement takes effect immediately, with COC expected to begin distribution this week.
From financial disputes to boardroom controversies and on-field struggles, Gor Mahia finds itself in stormy waters. Coach Akonnor faces the challenge of steadying the ship while the club works to resolve Shaban’s contract row and calm growing unrest among supporters.
With the season just underway, K’Ogalo must regroup quickly if they hope to reclaim their dominance and restore harmony both on and off the pitch.
